Alternative House was HomeAid Northern Virginia’s first project. This emergency shelter for young people ages 13 to 17 was originally purchased through efforts of the building industry over 14 years ago. Beazer Homes was the Builder Captain and with it’s Trade Partners, doubled the size of Alternative House with a 2,200 square-foot addition and renovated the existing 2,100 square-foot facility. This included an enlarged kitchen, expanded counseling facilities, and multi-purpose space. Alternative House is a voluntary, two-week crisis intervention program. Established in 1972, the teen shelter provides residential care to an average of 250 young people each year.
