Women Giving Back

wgb-logo-w-taglineDonate your new or gently used professional clothing for women in homeless shelters!

Women Giving Back (WGB) is a HomeAid program that provides free clothing to women and children in Northern Virginia homeless shelters. Many women in the shelters are employed or attending school, and need professional clothing and accessories to improve their lives and the lives of their families. We provide the clothing free of charge to women with shopping vouchers provided by their case workers.

Volunteer at the Women Giving Back Store!
The WGB Store is open the second Saturday of each month so that homeless women can shop, free of charge, for  the items they need. We rely on volunteers to help sort clothing and prepare the Store for shoppers on Wednesdays and Fridays before the Store opening. Volunteers also help run the Store while it’s open, assisting women in choosing the right outfits and restocking clothing racks.

Donation Guidelines:
We accept “like new” clothing. Our goal is to provide clothing that will help women succeed in college and in the workplace. Therefore, we only accept clothing that donors would wear in a professional setting. Our women and children are looking to start again and need to present a dignified, clean, and professional appearance.

Things we need:
Suits, separates, business attire, shoes, jewelry, coats, unopened make up & toiletries, purses, and business accessories. We also accept children’s clothing, shoes, and toys.

Things we do not accept:
Tee-shirts, worn out clothing, stained clothing, missing buttons, or dirty clothing.

We are a 100% volunteer program, and it takes hours to separate the clothing. It would help us if you are very selective about the clothing you donate. Clothing must be CLEAN and on thin plastic hangers preferably.

We only use clothing suited for a professional environment. Please do not donate clothing that does not meet our guidelines, as it is difficult to re-donate those items. Clothing that does not meet our standards is set aside and not presented to the shoppers on the day of The Store.

If you would like to donate clothing or volunteer, please e-mail the Women Giving Back Task Force at womengivingback@gmail.com or call Marjie at 703-554-9386.
